Chemical attack was occurring at the site in the spillage zone beneath cells and in the trench subject to immersion conditions of hot brine and 12% caustic soda at temperatures up to 99oC.

Breakdown of the existing coating led to not only corrosion of the supporting concrete plinths and trenches but led to the possibility of chemical seepage to ground water which was not acceptable to the client.

The Metz solution for the client was placement of a highly temperature and corrosion resistant 10mm thick epoxy novolac render material. Metz 33EN-TG for horizontal surfaces, Metz 33EN-VG for vertical surfaces.

Joints in the critical trench area were filled with a high grade fluoropolymer material Metz Viton Caulk.

Metz assisted the installation effort by providing training videos prior to shutdown, but when installation commenced three Metz personnel were present to ensure training of the local Saudi applicators. One Metz Supervisor remained on site for the bulk of the installation works
